-
Manual Therapy: Is a hands-on treatment used to treat dysfunctional tissue. It involves mobilizations, manipulations, manual energy techniques (MET), mobilization with movement, and soft tissue techniques to improve joint mobility, reduce tissue tension, and improve tissue mobility for improved function.
-
Functional dry needling (FDN):
This technique uses needles similar to acupuncture needles but the needles are utilized differently. Physical Therapists use the needles to target trigger points in muscles, used to target dysfunctional tendons, nerves, ligaments, muscles, and scar tissue to help promote the healing process.
Electrical stimulation is often attached to the needles and applied to improve the tissue function. Many people can benefit from dry needling and it is often tolerated very well. Dry needling can be used in combination with Acupuncture, and often times we work together to help patients along their healing journy.  -
Cupping:Â Â This is a type of soft tissue mobilization using cups and suction to improve tissue mobility and blood flow.
The targeted area can be prepped with lotion or without, cups applied and engaged by pulling air out creating a suction on the skin.
The cups can stay in place or be moved around adding a distraction force to the muscles skin and fascia helping the healing process. -
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM): This is a soft tissue technique that utilizes different shapped metal tools to help improve tissue mobility, break up scar tissue, decrease fluid build up, increase blood flow, and improve tissue function.Â
-
Blood Flow Restriction Therapy (BFRT):
This is a tool that improves muscle strength and helps prevent atrophy. It entails a specialised cuff (like blood pressure cuff) placed on your proximal limb and occludes 30%-50% of upper extremities and 60%-80% of blood flow to lower extremities. Then with the cuff inflated you will perform structured exercises to increase muscle strength, tendon strength, and tolerance to load.
It is very helpful after surgery when there are limitation with how much you can lift.
It is also a great tool to use prior to surgery to prepare the limb for the possible tourniquet being placed on the surgical limb by the medical team, as well as increase strength prior to your procedure. Most patients (expect people with blood clotting disorders) can utilize this tool during therapy to help improve muscle function, strength, decrease pain, and improve movement. -
Kinesiology Tape (K-Tape): This adhesive tape can be applied to muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints to improve function, decrease pain, and promote the healing processes. It can be worn multiple days long, during activity and sport to dampen pain and improve ability.Â
-
Aquatic Therapy: Also known as hydrotherapy, is a specialized form of rehabilitation that utilizes water’s therapeutic properties to promote healing and recovery. This approach harnesses water’s resistance, natural buoyancy, and warmth to relieve pain, enhance mobility, and strengthen muscles. Many conditions can benefit from pool therapy including chronic pain, arthritis, pre-op, post-op, injuries, and return to sport programs.
-
Tailored Exercise Prescription: Based on your evaluation and tolerance to treatments, a home exercise program (HEP) will be created and continually updated for you to complete daily/weekly to promote the healing process and get you closer to your goals.Â
